Cielo is honored to be a part of the Ofek 16 program
Cielo's space system's have accumulated 130,000 operating hours, with zero failures and no performance degradation
On Monday, 6 July 2020, the Space Administration in the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (DDR&D), of the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMoD), and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), successfully launched the ‘Ofek 16’ reconnaissance satellite into space. The launch was performed from a launch site based in central Israel, using a ‘Shavit’ launcher.
‘Ofek 16’ is an electro-optical reconnaissance satellite with advanced capabilities. During the initial period of operation, the satellite will undergo a series of tests to determine its propriety and performance level.
In 2016 Cielo established its space heritage, with a successful delivery and operations of its Inertial Reference Unit. It has been operational in orbit since then. The system’s sensors have accumulated 130,000 operating hours, with zero failures and no performance degradation.
Cielo’s IRU is utilized in these satellites for flight control, extremely accurate pointing, and payload stabilization.
For the past decade Cielo has designed navigation systems that comply with Radiation Hardness Assurance (RHA) standards, for the harsh and demanding environments of space. Cielo’s systems deliver fully-compensated angular rates. Multiple performance and size options are available, to satisfy unique packaging, bias instability, noise performance and dynamic range requirements plus Ultra-high-performance Fiber Optic systems with extreme accuracy. The systems four gyros ensure full redundancy.
Cielo is a certified supplier to prime satellite manufacturers with ongoing production deliveries and is ITAR-Free – all products are entirely designed and developed in-house.
